2016: Sleep During Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period

The course provides a review of the changes in normal sleep patterns due to pregnancy and in the postpartum period. Significant hormonal changes due to pregnancy will be correlated to the changes in sleep patterns. Discussion will focus on treatment strategies for management of co-morbid sleep disorders occurring during pregnancy, such as insomnia, sleep apnea, and restless legs syndrome.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the attendee will be able to:
1. Outline changes in sleep patterns in women during pregnancy and postpartum
2. Identify the key hormonal changes that impact sleep during pregnancy and postpartum
3. Develop a treatment plan for management of sleep disorders
